All Hikes in 'Day Hikes'
Day hikes make it possible to experience a trail, mountain, forest, river valley or coastline without an overnight pack. They range from short family walks and marked reserve routes to demanding full-day mountain objectives, so the right choice depends on more than the number of kilometres.
Plan the whole day
Check the route’s distance, elevation, terrain, access process, weather exposure and available daylight before leaving. A day hike can become serious when a group starts late, runs out of water, underestimates a climb or relies on a return route that is affected by tide, weather or a closed gate.
Go prepared, come back comfortably
Carry water, food, sun protection, a warm or waterproof layer and navigation suited to the place. Tell someone your plan, keep to authorised paths and choose a route that fits the least experienced person in the group.
