The Circular Route, Maliba Lodge

The Maliba Circular Route is a challenging yet rewarding 13km hike that takes you through the stunning Maloti Mountains of Lesotho. Starting from the luxurious Maliba Lodge at an altitude of 2030m, the trail winds its way up to a peak of 2626m, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

Highlights of the hike:

• Upper Trail to Black Pool: The trailhead starts near the lodge, leading you through diverse landscapes of mountain shrubs and grasses. You'll encounter crystal-clear streams and, eventually, the serene Black Pool, a perfect spot to rest and admire the scenery.
• Three Cascades: As you ascend further, you'll be rewarded with the sight of the majestic Three Cascades, where water tumbles down the mountainside, creating a picturesque waterfall.  
• Summit Crossroads: Reaching the summit, you'll find yourself at a crossroads. While the main path leads to remote villages, the circular route descends into a steep valley.
• Ventilation Shaft: The trail takes you through a unique geological formation, the ventilation shaft, offering a glimpse into the mountain's interior.  
• River Pool Route: The final stretch of the hike leads you back to the lodge along the scenic River Pool Route, where you can relax by the river and reflect on your adventure.
