About Groenkloof Yellow Trail

The Yellow Trail is the longest marked hiking route in Groenkloof Nature Reserve and the best option for hikers wanting a substantial walk within Pretoria. The route covers 10.5 km through rocky bushveld hills, open sections and wildlife habitat, with several worthwhile viewpoints.

Current official routes: Red 1.3/3.5 km; White 3.7 km; Yellow 10.5 km.

Hike Directions

Start from the hiking trail area inside Groenkloof Nature Reserve and follow the yellow trail markers.

The trail begins with climbing through rocky terrain before reaching more open sections of the reserve. The route is clearly shown on the official City of Tshwane hiking map and returns to the starting area.

Although the trail is close to Pretoria, treat it as an exposed Highveld hike. Shade is limited in places and summer conditions can become very hot.

Wildlife in the reserve includes giraffe, zebra, kudu, impala, blue wildebeest and red hartebeest. Give all animals space and never approach wildlife for photographs.
