Slackpacking

All Hikes in 'Slackpacking'

Slackpacking lets hikers enjoy a multi-day trail without carrying the full weight of camping equipment and supplies. Depending on the route, luggage may be transferred between overnight stops while walkers carry the essentials needed for the day: water, food, weather protection, personal medication and a small safety kit.

Support changes the pack, not the responsibility

Every slackpacking trail has its own arrangement. Some include accommodation and meals; others require hikers to bring bedding, transport or particular equipment. Confirm exactly what is transferred, what is supplied, the day distances, booking terms and any minimum group requirements before travelling.

Walk prepared

Even with support, weather, terrain and fitness still matter. Use suitable footwear, carry the items needed between stops, keep to the route and choose an itinerary that gives the group time to enjoy the landscape rather than rush between overnight points.
