The Olive Trail, a 10km loop hike in Namibia's Namib-Naukluft National Park, offers a challenging yet rewarding adventure. Located 4km northeast of Naukluft Camp, the trailhead is accessible without a reservation.
The initial 2.2km is a steep ascent, gaining 330 meters in elevation. Once at the top of the plateau, hikers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the vast, reddish-brown landscape.
The trail then descends into a dry riverbed, where the terrain becomes increasingly rocky and challenging. The canyon walls, adorned with quiver trees, create a stunning backdrop.
A highlight of the hike is a dramatic descent to a crystal-clear pool. This requires careful navigation through a narrow gorge, aided by chains fixed to the rock face.
The Olive Trail is a demanding hike, requiring a good level of fitness and a spirit of adventure. The stunning scenery and unique geological formations make it a worthwhile challenge for experienced hikers.
