Day 1 — Arniston orientation: Approximately 4 km. Begin with an introductory walk around the coastal settlement, with route options shaped by tides and access to the sea-cave area.
Day 2 — coastal and beach stage: Approximately 14 km. A short fynbos section leads onto a long beach walk timed around low tide, followed by a final walk to the overnight base.
Day 3 — coastal recovery stage: Approximately 11 km. Continue at low tide towards a Cape-style fishing cottage and coastal swimming areas. This is a lighter day with time for the shoreline.
Day 4 — southward coastal stage: Approximately 16 km. The longest day follows beach, fishing-harbour and koppie terrain, with coastal viewpoints and historical features before finishing in a private-reserve setting.
Day 5 — final coast walk: Approximately 5 km. A final elevated coastal path and heritage-guided cave visit lead into the return transport.
Tide, weather, conservation rules and guide judgement determine the exact daily line. Do not use the route independently from this outline or enter sea caves and heritage sites outside authorised access.
What to expect
Wear walking shoes suitable for sand and rocky shore, and bring a light day pack, water, sun protection, warm windproof layers, rain protection, personal medication and a basic first-aid kit. Much of the beach walking takes place around low tide, so timing is a safety issue, not an optional preference.
Treat the coast with respect. Never turn your back on the sea, keep out of unsafe surf and rip-current zones, and follow local tide advice. Historical shell-midden, cave and Strandloper-related landscapes are protected and sensitive: view them with the guide, stay on permitted paths and leave everything untouched.
