Hiking Itinerary
Arrival the day before, preferably before dark, to settle in and experience a beautiful sunset and be fresh for the first day of hiking. Starting early for this first day is essential. The second day’s hike is short enough to still be back at camp and head back home. If the second day is done at leisure, spend another night at the campsite.
Day 1: Bloukrans Plateau Hike
The first day features a circular route of 15–17 km beginning at the southernmost border of the farm. The trail gradually ascends one of the highest local peaks, reaching 1050 meters above sea level. From the summit, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of the winding canyon and the Komsberg mountains to the south of Sutherland. This challenging day includes steep jeep track ascents and descents, but the effort is well worth it, with ample opportunities for breathtaking landscape photography.
Day 2: Bloukrans River Hike
On the second day, experience a relaxed circular route of 10–12 km through the riverbed to the striking Bloukrans cliff face, exposed for over 300 million years and adorned with exquisite prehistoric rock art. The trail returns across the plateau via jeep track, passing through dwarf succulent and Nama Karoo veld.
