Hike Directions

Day 1: Groot Tuin to Brakwater (4km, 2-3 hours)

Begin your adventure at Groot Tuin, where the trail winds through historical ruins and offers breathtaking views of the Saaikloof Gorge. As you ascend, the path becomes more rugged, leading you to the edge of the gorge.

Day 2: Brakwater to Driefontein (8.5km, 6-7 hours)

This day presents a significant challenge as you navigate a series of ladders and ropes to reach the plateau. The reward for your efforts is a refreshing swim in the "last water" pool and the opportunity to explore ancient San rock art sites at Driefontein campsite.

Day 3: Driefontein to Doltuin (12km, 6-8 hours)

The trail continues to ascend, offering glimpses of the unique geology of the area. At Kameel se Gat, you'll encounter fascinating stone structures built by early farmers and a historic cemetery. The highlight of the day is the challenging climb through a chimney to reach the top of the gorge.

Day 4: Doltuin to Pramkoppie (17km, 6-8 hours)

Prepare for a thrilling day of rock scrambling as you navigate ten impressive rock arches. The trail culminates at Arrie se Punt, the highest point on the route, offering panoramic views of the Knersvlakte.

Day 5: Pramkoppie to Groot Tuin (10.7km, 5-7 hours)

The final day of your adventure presents one last challenge: a steep descent through a chimney. Once you emerge from the narrow passage, you'll follow the trail back to Groot Tuin, reflecting on your incredible journey through the Oorlogskloof.
