Monks Cowl Nature Reserve

Monks Cowl Nature Reserve is a popular and comparatively accessible Drakensberg gateway beneath the distinctive peak that gives it its name, between Champagne Castle and Cathedral Peak. It provides a rewarding introduction to the mountains—clear streams, forest patches, steep grass slopes and enormous views—while also opening towards the Mlambonja and Mdedelelo wilderness areas. A visitor can enjoy a short marked walk here, but the surrounding high Berg is genuine mountain country and should be planned accordingly.
