Nestled on the Free State side of the majestic Bloemhof Dam, approximately 200 kilometers northwest of Bloemfontein, lies the enchanting Sandveld Nature Reserve. This vast expanse of 37,000 hectares offers a captivating blend of sandy landscapes, thornveld savannas, and diverse wildlife.

The reserve is home to a variety of iconic African animals, including the majestic white rhino, graceful giraffe, powerful buffalo, and elusive sable and roan antelope. The plains are also teeming with blue wildebeest and zebra, offering thrilling game-viewing opportunities.

For bird enthusiasts, Sandveld is a haven. The Kalahari thornveld provides ideal habitat for a myriad of avian species, including the sociable weaver and the elusive pygmy falcon. The reserve also attracts a diverse range of other birdlife, such as waxbills, gabar goshawks, tits, and the striking pied barbet.
