Great Fish River Nature Reserve is a 45,000-hectare Eastern Cape protected landscape roughly midway between Makhanda and Qonce (King William’s Town). It joins the former Andries Vosloo Kudu, Double Drift and Sam Knott reserves in one large, malaria-free conservation area. The Great Fish River is the thread through it all: it cuts through a rugged canyon country where thicket, savannah and grassland meet, creating a reserve that rewards slow self-drive exploration rather than a hurried checklist safari.
