Amakhala Game Reserve

Amakhala Game Reserve is a large private conservation area in the malaria-free Eastern Cape, with rolling plains, valleys, thicket and Bushman’s River country creating a more varied setting than a single uniform savanna. It began in 1999 when neighbouring farming families combined land that had long been used for sheep and cattle. The story is therefore not simply a Big Five safari: it is a land-restoration project, turning farms back toward indigenous vegetation and reintroducing species that once moved through this part of the Zuurveld.
