A Coastal Wilderness of Natural Beauty

The Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park is a place of dramatic natural beauty, where the powerful Indian Ocean meets rugged coastlines, lush forests, and deep ravines carved by ancient rivers. This "place of much water" offers a unique blend of marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

Marine and Coastal Wonders

The park extends five kilometers into the ocean, protecting a rich tapestry of intertidal, reef, and deep-sea life. Dolphins playfully surf the waves, while southern right whales visit the shores to breed. The endangered African black oystercatcher nests along the rocky coastline, adding to the park's diverse birdlife. The elusive Cape clawless otter hunts crabs along the shore, and sightings of blue duiker and bushbuck are occasional treats for observant visitors.

Rest Camps and Accommodation

Tsitsikamma features two distinct rest camps, each offering its own unique charm:

  • Storms River Mouth Rest Camp: Located approximately 615 kilometers from Cape Town, 195 kilometers from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), and 68 kilometers from Plettenberg Bay, this camp offers stunning seascapes, dense indigenous forests, and well-maintained walking and hiking trails. Guests can enjoy suspension bridges, boat trips, and other activities. The camp provides 100 campsites, all with electricity, communal ablutions, and laundry facilities, situated just steps from the ocean.
  • De Vasselot Rest Camp: Located in Natures Valley, this camp offers a different, but equally beautiful, Tsitsikamma experience.

Activities and Natural Attractions

Visitors to Storms River Mouth Rest Camp can enjoy:

  • Scenic walks and hikes through indigenous forests.
  • Suspension bridge crossings with breathtaking views.
  • Boat trips along the coastline.
