SANParks Addo Matyholweni Rest Camp

Addo Matyholweni Rest Camp, aptly named "in the bush" in Xhosa, offers convenient access to the wonders of Addo Elephant National Park. Located just 3 kilometers off the N2 highway near Colchester and the Sundays River Mouth, this second gateway to the park provides easy entry for visitors.

Accommodation: Comfortable Self-Catering Cottages

The camp features thatched, open-plan self-catering cottages, each designed for comfort and convenience. Each cottage includes a fully equipped kitchen, a private bathroom, and a TV with limited DStv channels, providing guests with the essentials for a relaxing stay.

Wildlife Viewing: A Growing Diversity

Matyholweni is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The area is home to a diverse range of animals, including kudu, bushbuck, caracal, bushpig, warthog, various smaller mammals, and a rich variety of bird species. Since 2009, larger species such as Burchell's zebra, red hartebeest, and buffalo have been introduced, further enhancing the wildlife viewing experience. Exciting future plans include the introduction of elephants, lions, and ostriches, with the long-term goal of connecting this area to the main game area, allowing for natural wildlife movement and expanding the park's ecological integrity.

Access to the Main Game Area: Scenic Drive

Guests can access the park's main game viewing area via a 39-kilometer southern access road leading to Addo Main Camp. It's important to note that this route is not suitable for buses or caravans.
